Visual arts, Film, and Theater are three art forms that I find to be correlational in that these art forms require one’s comprehension, attitude, and engagement in order to fully grasp the depth and complexity of the story that the art conveys. Each of these art forms tells a story in different means of delivery, despite their differences in that aspect the three art forms are found to be similar in one, they are present to touch the inside of your mind and make you feel something through the displays.
Visual arts nowadays are made everywhere using everything, from digital public materials to spray paintings in a courtyard, visual arts take up a lot of space in today’s world. This type of art is what keeps the community of artists thriving because from the moment it came within reach of dreamers and those with vast imaginations, it grew and grew into a being so powerful. Visual arts around us has grown as much as the country because each experience and issue the country has gone through, visual arts became present in speaking out about the phenomenons around the artists who create the works of art which visually and intellectually stimulate its audience. It is true that this form of art is stoic and unmoving yet it ironically manages to move people into seeing beyond the colors and lines and shapes but the true meaning behind the art forms. Because of how vast and ever changing and unique this form of art is, there are no strict list of characteristics that can be taken away from every single piece because it is a marriage of many art styles and subsequently still unique to the artist themselves.
Visual arts developed from our ancestors’ using the indigenous items around them to technological advances as colonizers continued to influence us and eventually we learned how to bring our own flare into the art form and still to this day, visual arts continue to change and develop and touch people. Films are recreations of words on paper in a screen with productions that could only amount to so much. It has provided constant entertainment and opportunities for Filipinos back in the 1890’s when it was first introduced by foreigners. Stories that were once mindless words and something only the imagination could conjure and only a limited amount of people could encounter or come across became alive through film. In a way it has progressed extremely well in the last years because it went from black and white moving pictures to colored, clearer visuals in films where a mere emotion through an actor’s eyes can be seen through the big and even small screens now. Film has become an extremely massive industry and the films did not only stick to stories of old authors but became more original over time. The films being released ranged from genres like horror and thriller to romances and comedies, but the aspect that film shares with visual arts is that it is able to tell the stories of real time events and people’s life experiences on a screen through actors and actresses who appealed to the public. These stories grabbed the attention of people from all over the country and started to tell stories that would connect with people and not only was it the easiest to spread it could appeal to those people who are not privileged enough to receive education to understand stories in books or paper and ink. Film also offered countless career choices from being a director, actor, and even camera director. Films have the widest audiences because of how the characters, stories, and imagery resonated with the audiences that witnessed films. Notable characteristics of film is the manner in which it is filmed and produced and the kind of script the writers and directors put into the recorded acting.
Today, films can be found everywhere and can be done by anyone with simple technological resources and any story can be told and it would be given the attention it deserves and spreads a feeling that can only be experienced after witnessing a production. Theater, I believe, is one of the most challenging yet robust forms of art because it requires extreme discipline, strength, endurance, and character. Because theater is live and usually involves music, dance, and acting it is a combination of most of the art forms in that it is a story, brought to life by acting, dancing, and music in a set, on stage in front of an audience, and being able to be in a production in a theater is something only the most talented can achieve. Theater originated from the Spanish Colonization era where they introduced plays with secular and religious themes and now the music of a generation has been brought to the big stage to tell a story by arranging and configuring songs that have no connection whatsoever but somehow through the talents of the production team it was made into existence. Musicals and live theater from the western countries comes extremely expensive but the experience is like no other when one is sitting in a room of people who are all in awe of the movements, emotions, dialogues, and voices of the actors and actresses on the stage right in front of you as the light switches and the background music which is all live appeals to the events happening on stage and the combination of the art forms and talents become something magnificent. The way that theater is a form of visual art where it makes you feel through the art of the music and dances and how it connects to film because it is also a story brought to life on a live stage is an amazing and breathtaking display of how art can create an atmosphere where not only your eyes can feast on the activity on stage but your ears, mind, and heart as well. It is an intricate but spectacular combination of art forms and it deserves more attention because of how much work is actually put into theater productions.
All three art forms are vehicles of stories, emotions, and passion which highlight the surrounding phenomenons happening around the country in subtle but plain acts. Each art form should not be excluded from any discussion because each has a role and each form resonates with different communities and what is important is how the art brings people together to feel and witness the beauty that the art forms have created. Art is not simply something to look at but true and beautiful art is the art that makes you feel.
